University of Missouri Research Highlights Health Benefits of Consistent Daily Routines for Older Adults
Recent research from the University of Missouri underscores the health benefits of maintaining a consistent daily routine, particularly for older adults. The study, led by Eunjin Tracy, an assistant professor in the College of Education and Human Development, examined survey responses from 67 older adults, 37 of whom experienced insomnia. The findings revealed that those who adhered to regular daily schedules reported less physical pain and fewer symptoms of depression, regardless of their sleep quality. The study suggests that everyday patterns, such as consistent times for waking, eating, working, socializing, and sleeping, can support better overall well-being by helping to synchronize the body's internal clock, known as the circadian rhythm.
