State Attorneys General Urge Credit Card Companies to Combat Illegal Vape Sales
A coalition of 13 state attorneys general, led by Iowa Attorney General Brenna Bird, is calling on major credit card companies to halt transactions related to illegal vape sales. The coalition's letter highlights the significant presence of illicit vaping products in the U.S. market, largely imported from China, which account for over $11 billion in annual sales. These products are reportedly sold in numerous retail locations, including gas stations and convenience stores. The attorneys general are urging companies like Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Discover to identify and eliminate merchants involved in these illegal sales. The initiative draws parallels to a previous successful collaboration that curtailed illegal online cigarette sales, leading to the enactment of the PACT Act.
