U.S. Airports and eVTOL Developers Advance Vertiport Infrastructure Amidst Certification Delays
Wisk Aero, an autonomous aviation company being acquired by Archer Aviation from Boeing, has initiated construction of a new vertiport at Hollister Municipal Airport in California. This facility is designed to support both piloted and autonomous eVTOL operations and will serve as a test bed for evaluating terminal-area flight procedures, collecting operational data, and validating precision-landing technologies. The data gathered will contribute to regulatory and industry initiatives, including the FAA’s eVTOL Integration Pilot Program (eIPP) and the development of the FAA’s Vertical Lift Infrastructure Advisory Circular. The vertiport features a modular, deployable design with elevated steel structures, integrated solar panels, and power banks, allowing for relocation to other test sites, such as future eIPP flight testing in Texas.
