Meta Adjusts AI Suggestions After Chatbot Poses Invasive Personal Questions About User's Children
Meta is implementing changes to the prompt suggestions offered by its AI chatbot after a viral video exposed the AI asking invasive personal questions about a user's young daughters. Instagram user Kalie Robins posted a video detailing how Meta AI presented her with a prompt, 'Who is the child passenger?' beneath a video of her and her child. Upon selecting the prompt, Robins discovered that Meta AI had aggregated information about her daughters from her past posts and those of her relatives, suggesting further questions about their ages and her family's residence. Meta spokesperson Dina El-Kassaby acknowledged the company 'missed the mark,' stating that such prompts should not have been generated. The company has since fixed the issue causing the AI to suggest prompts related to personal topics, emphasizing that the feature is designed to provide information the user already has access to.
