UK Supermarkets Launch Nationwide Campaign to Combat Hunger and Food Waste
Five major UK supermarket chains, including Tesco, Sainsbury's, Morrisons, Waitrose, and Marks & Spencer, have launched a nationwide campaign called 'Let's make a meal of it' to address food poverty and reduce supply chain waste. The initiative encourages customers to donate in-store or online, with each £1 raised funding five meals for those in need. The campaign is part of a broader effort by the Alliance Food Sourcing coalition to redirect surplus food to charities. Despite challenges in food supply and transport costs, the coalition has already delivered over 10 million meals and aims to reach 30 million annually by 2028.
