Trump Administration Urged to Investigate CUNY's Black Male Initiative for Alleged Discrimination
The Trump administration is being urged by the Equal Protection Project (EPP) to investigate the City University of New York's (CUNY) Black Male Initiative (BMI) for alleged discrimination. The EPP claims that the program, which aims to improve educational outcomes for minority male students, violates federal civil rights laws by excluding women and white students. The initiative has been in place for 20 years and is designed to bolster enrollment, retention, and graduation rates of minority male students across 22 CUNY colleges. Despite its goals, the EPP argues that the program's race-based focus is unconstitutional, especially following a 2023 Supreme Court ruling against race-based affirmative action in college admissions.
