Texas Governor Activates Emergency Response for Severe Weather Threat
Governor Greg Abbott of Texas has activated the state's emergency response resources in anticipation of severe thunderstorms expected to impact the state over Mother's Day weekend. The National Weather Service has forecasted significant thunderstorm activity across a large portion of Texas, beginning Sunday afternoon and continuing into the early hours of Monday. The KHOU 11 Weather Team has issued a Weather Impact Alert for the Houston area, effective from 10 p.m. Sunday to 5 a.m. Monday. While the most severe weather is expected to remain north of Houston, there is a possibility of strong storms developing in the area. Other regions, including Central, North, and West Texas, are under an enhanced severe weather risk, rated at level 3 on a scale of 1 to 5. Governor Abbott has urged Texans to follow the guidance of state and local officials, monitor weather forecasts, and prepare emergency plans.
