Iowa House Passes Bill Granting Tax Exemptions for Nuclear Plant Development
The Iowa House has passed a bill (HF 2757) that grants sales and use tax exemptions for companies starting or restarting nuclear plants after 2027. The bill aims to encourage economic growth and the development of nuclear energy in the state. Companies would stop receiving exemptions once operational, and if they don't start within 12.5 years, they must repay the taxes. The bill is expected to decrease state and local revenue by over $90 million in the next five years. NextEra Energy plans to restart the Duane Arnold Energy Center in Palo by 2029, benefiting from the exemptions.
