China Detains Journalists Following Corruption Report Publication
Chinese authorities have detained two journalists, Wu Yingjiao and Liu Hu, following their publication of a report alleging corruption by a local official in Sichuan province. The report, which was published on the social media platform WeChat, accused Pu Fayou, the Communist Party secretary of Pujiang county, of corrupt practices. The report has since been removed from WeChat, a common practice in cases involving sensitive government issues. The journalists are being investigated for 'making false accusations' and 'illegal business operations,' and have been placed under 'criminal coercive measures,' a term typically indicating detention.
