Micron Biomedical Secures Federal Contract for Radiation Medical Countermeasure
Micron Biomedical, a clinical-stage life science company, has been awarded a $4.5 million contract by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), part of the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH). The contract is aimed at developing the first dissolvable microarray medical countermeasure against radiation injury. This innovative approach is designed to enhance national preparedness against nuclear threats by providing a thermostable treatment for Acute Radiation Syndrome (ARS) that can be administered by minimally-trained personnel or self-administered. The technology involves a dissolvable microarray platform that delivers medications painlessly through the skin, eliminating the need for traditional injections and sharps waste. This development is part of a broader effort to improve the rapid deployment of medical countermeasures in emergency scenarios.
