This move has put him at odds with the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB), a major Republican donor, which argues that the tariffs will exacerbate supply chain uncertainties and increase costs for building materials. The tariffs, affecting $20 billion in annual imports, are set to take effect on August 19. The NAHB has been lobbying for exemptions for construction materials, citing the potential impact on the housing market.
