UN Report Highlights Global Challenge of Affordable Healthy Diets
A recent report by five UN agencies, including the FAO and WHO, reveals that one in three people globally cannot afford a healthy diet. The report, titled 'The State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World 2026', indicates that 2.69 billion people are unable to meet their dietary needs, despite a decline in global hunger for the third consecutive year. The cost of a healthy diet is calculated at 4.28 PPP dollars per day, which is significantly higher than the extreme poverty line of $3 PPP per person. The report emphasizes the need for investment in infrastructure and supply chain efficiency to reduce the costs of nutritious foods like fruits, vegetables, and dairy.
