UK Government Allocates £10m to Southbank Centre for Urgent Repairs
The UK government has allocated £10 million to the Southbank Centre in London to assist with urgent repairs during its 75th anniversary. This funding is part of a larger £128 million package aimed at supporting 130 cultural venues across the UK. The investment will address infrastructure issues such as leaking roofs and failing glazing, ensuring the venue remains open to millions of visitors annually. The Southbank Centre has faced financial challenges, partly due to debts from a major renovation that began in 2005. The funding is part of the Creative Foundations Fund, which will benefit 74 arts and culture venues, including the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art and Firstsite gallery.
