Severe Storms and Heavy Rain Threaten Tennessee Valley and Southeast
Severe storms are expected to impact the Tennessee Valley, the Ozarks, and parts of the Southeast on Monday, May 31, 2026. According to NOAA, areas including West Tennessee, northern Mississippi, and northwestern Alabama are under a Level 2 out of 5 risk for severe thunderstorms. The primary hazards include wind gusts up to 60 mph and large hail. Additionally, a low-end flash flood threat exists for parts of the Ozarks and the Mississippi and Tennessee valleys through Tuesday morning. Meanwhile, heavy rain is forecast for southeast Georgia and parts of North Florida, including Jacksonville, which could help alleviate extreme drought conditions. A non-tropical low-pressure system may form off the Carolina coast on Tuesday, potentially causing rough surf and minor beach erosion.
