Protests Across Indiana Call on Governor Mike Braun to End ICE Detentions Amid Abuse Allegations
A series of protests, dubbed the 'Weekend of Public Witness,' took place across more than 55 locations in Indiana, calling on Governor Mike Braun to end Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detentions within the state. An Evansville ICE protest was among these numerous rallies. According to event organizer and media liaison Stuart Mora, the protests highlighted alleged abuses within detention centers, including reports of physical abuse by guards, unnecessary lockdowns, solitary confinement, and pervasive racial slurs. Mora shared accounts of detainees being body-slammed, forced to use the bathroom on cell floors, and placed in cells filled with feces. He also recounted the story of a man detained for six months who missed the birth of his third child, despite having lived in the U.S. since age 13 without prior knowledge of being at risk of detainment. The rallies featured various organizations and collected donations for the Immigration Welcome and Resource Center.
