Grafton Ferry to Operate Year-Round Under City Ownership
The Grafton Ferry, which connects the city of Grafton with St. Charles County across the Mississippi and Illinois rivers, will now operate year-round under new city ownership. Previously, the ferry operated seasonally from mid-April to mid-November. The city purchased the ferry from the Calhoun County Ferry Co. for $878,000, funded by a $1.45 million grant from the Illinois Department of Transportation. The ferry will continue to be operated by the ferry company for the next 20 years, with fares and state funding covering future costs.
