Consumer Reports Releases Top Sunscreens for 2026
Consumer Reports has published its annual sunscreen ratings for 2026, evaluating over 100 products, including lotions and sprays. The testing process involved measuring SPF (sun protection factor) by applying sunscreen to small skin areas and exposing them to UVB rays, which cause sunburn and contribute to skin cancer. Water-resistant products were tested after soaking in water for up to 80 minutes. UVA protection, which guards against skin aging and cancer, was assessed by shining UV light through sunscreen-coated plates. Notably, many products did not meet their labeled SPF values, but Consumer Reports emphasized that using sunscreen is still essential. Coppertone Water Babies Lotion SPF 50 received the highest overall score, while Eucerin Advanced Hydration Spray SPF 50 topped the spray category.
