Iceland's Unemployment Rate Rises to 5% in June, Reflecting Economic Challenges
Seasonally adjusted unemployment in Iceland increased to 5.0% in June, marking a rise of 1.7 percentage points from the same month last year, according to Statistics Iceland. The Labour Force Survey indicated that approximately 9,200 people aged 16 to 74 were unemployed during this period, with the seasonally adjusted figure reaching around 11,500. Despite the year-on-year increase, the unemployment rate saw a slight decrease of 0.6 percentage points compared to May. Employment and labor force participation also declined, with the employment rate dropping by 5.4 percentage points to 77.9%, and labor force participation falling by 4.1 percentage points to 81.0%. The Directorate of Labour reported a registered unemployment rate of 4.0% in July, using a different methodology.
