ICCB Calls for India to Ease Trade Barriers and Expedite CEPA to Reduce Trade Gap
The International Chamber of Commerce Bangladesh (ICCB) has urged India to expedite the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) to address the trade imbalance between the two countries. During a meeting with Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Dinesh Trivedi, ICCB President Mahbubur Rahman emphasized the need for India to improve market access for Bangladeshi products and reduce non-tariff barriers. The bilateral trade between Bangladesh and India is significant, with Bangladesh exporting $1.76 billion and importing $9.62 billion in the fiscal year 2024-25. The ICCB also highlighted the importance of private sector engagement and regional cooperation through initiatives like the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) and the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC).
