Hays Teen Receives Heart Transplant, Gains New Lease on Life
Kaylee Stuart, a 16-year-old from Hays, has undergone a successful heart transplant after living with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome, a condition where the left side of the heart is underdeveloped. The transplant took place at Children's Mercy in Kansas City, and the family was initially told to expect a wait of up to two years after being placed on the transplant list. However, a suitable donor was found just over six weeks later. Kaylee's recovery is progressing well, with no signs of tissue rejection, and she is expected to return home by early August. The family has expressed gratitude to the donor family and hopes to meet them, although privacy rules may prevent this. A GoFundMe campaign has been set up to support Kaylee's recovery, which has already exceeded its goal.
