Singapore's Telecom Sector Targeted by Cyber Espionage Group UNC3886, Prompting Major Security Response
Singapore's major telecom companies, including Singtel, StarHub, M1, and Simba, were targeted by a cyberattack orchestrated by the cyber espionage group UNC3886. This attack, first disclosed in July 2025, was part of a deliberate and well-planned campaign against the country's telecommunications sector. The attackers managed to gain access to some critical systems but did not disrupt services or access sensitive customer data. Operation Cyber Guardian, a coordinated response involving 100 cyber defenders and six government agencies, was launched to address the threat. The agencies involved include the Cyber Security Agency of Singapore, the Infocomm Media Development Authority, and the Digital and Intelligence Service of the Singapore Armed Forces, among others. The response is considered the largest coordinated cyber defense effort by Singapore to date.
