Bug Fire Scorches Over 6,500 Acres, Triggers Evacuations in Nevada and California
The Bug Fire, a fast-moving wildfire near the California-Nevada border, has burned through more than 6,500 acres as of late Saturday night, August 8, 2026. The fire, which began at approximately 4:08 p.m. on Saturday near U.S. Route 395 and Bringman Road in Lassen County, California, rapidly expanded due to strong winds. It grew from 50 acres to 6,528 acres within hours. Evacuation orders and warnings have been issued for parts of Washoe County, Nevada, and Lassen and Sierra counties in California. Emergency responders are working to establish control lines, but containment has not yet been reported. The Evelyn Mount Community Center in Reno has been set up as an evacuation center, with additional facilities available for pets and livestock.
