Tropical Storm Nolo Approaches Hawaii with Heavy Rain

Tropical Storm Nolo is currently located approximately 295 miles south of South Point, Hawaii, and 475 miles southeast of Honolulu, Hawaii, as of 8:00 PM HST on September 23, 2026. The storm is moving west-northwest at 7 mph (11 km/h) with maximum sustained winds of 45 mph (75 km/h). Nolo is expected to turn sharply northward overnight and approach the Big Island of Hawaii on Friday and Saturday. Forecasts indicate that Nolo may strengthen into a hurricane by Thursday night and potentially become a major hurricane by the weekend. Tropical-storm-force winds currently extend up to 80 miles (130 km) from the storm's center, and heavy rainfall is anticipated across the Hawaiian Islands.

Flood Watch Issued for Maui County Through Saturday

The National Weather Service (NWS) in Honolulu has issued a Flood Watch for Maui County, including Maui, Lanai, Molokai, The Big Island, and Kahoolawe. This alert is in effect from Wednesday afternoon through Saturday afternoon. A potential tropical cyclone, referred to as the future Nolo, is expected to bring heavy rainfall to the eastern end of Hawaii.
