Legal Challenge Filed Against Roman Gofman's Mossad Appointment Over Vetting Flaws
A new High Court petition has been filed to block the appointment of IDF Maj.-Gen. Roman Gofman as the next head of the Mossad. The petition, submitted by the Movement for Quality Government in Israel and Forum Homat Magen LeIsrael, argues that serious flaws in the vetting process and Gofman's conduct in the Ori Elmakayes affair should disqualify him from the position. The petition requests the court to issue a conditional order requiring Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to explain why the appointment should not be rescinded, or alternatively, to reconsider the nomination. The Elmakayes affair, which involves unauthorized IDF-linked operations and the detention of a minor, is central to the legal challenge. Former Supreme Court president Asher Grunis, who dissented against Gofman's approval, raised concerns about Gofman's integrity and command responsibility.
