Congressman Sam Liccardo's Housing Bills Aim to Address Crisis with Federal Support
Congressman Sam Liccardo, representing San Jose and surrounding areas, has co-authored four bills included in a significant federal housing package. This legislation, known as the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act, aims to alleviate the housing crisis by converting vacant office buildings into affordable housing and expanding loan options for manufactured homes and accessory dwelling units (ADUs). The act provides $100 million annually through 2031 for the Blighted Building to Housing Conversion Program. Liccardo emphasizes the need for bipartisan support to make these initiatives successful, particularly in high-vacancy areas like Silicon Valley. Despite these efforts, Liccardo acknowledges that the package is only a modest step towards addressing the broader housing challenges faced by millions of Americans.
