USDA Reports Mixed Progress in Corn, Soybean, and Wheat Planting
The USDA's latest Crop Progress report, published on May 11, 2026, highlights mixed planting and crop conditions across the United States. Corn planting has reached 57% completion in the top 18 corn-growing states, surpassing the five-year average of 52%. Soybean planting is also ahead, with 49% of the crop planted compared to the five-year average of 36%. Winter wheat is progressing well, with 61% of the crop headed, significantly above the five-year average of 45%. However, winter wheat condition has declined, with only 28% rated as good or excellent, compared to 54% at the same time last year. Spring wheat planting is slightly ahead of average, with 53% planted, while oat planting is at 76%, also ahead of the five-year average. Despite these advancements, oat emergence is lagging behind historical trends.
