DC-Area Schools Integrate AI, Mixed Results Highlight Need for Further Research
Schools in the Washington D.C. area are increasingly incorporating artificial intelligence (AI) into their educational systems. In Prince George’s County, Maryland, AI is being used to enhance students' storytelling skills, while in Virginia’s Fairfax and Prince William counties, it assists teachers with lesson planning and other classroom tasks. Despite the rapid adoption of AI tools, research on their effectiveness remains limited. According to Lily Fesler, a senior researcher at the AI Hub for Education at Stanford University, there is a lack of high-quality studies examining AI's impact on K-12 education. Some studies suggest that while AI can provide meaningful support, its effectiveness varies depending on how it is used.
