General Atomics Tests MQ-9B Drone with Saab's LoyalEye AEW Radars
General Atomics Aeronautical Systems (GA-ASI) has successfully flown its MQ-9B remotely piloted aircraft equipped with Saab's LoyalEye airborne early warning (AEW) radar arrays for the first time. This test flight, conducted from Southern California, marks the initial phase of a development process aimed at demonstrating full capabilities later this year. The LoyalEye system, an active electronically scanned array sensor, is designed to enhance air surveillance by providing critical aloft sensing against various threats, including tactical air munitions and drones. The collaboration between General Atomics and Saab, announced in June 2025, aims to deliver the world's first unmanned AEW solution, offering persistent and cost-effective surveillance capabilities.
