AI Study Identifies Multiple Parkinson’s Disease Subtypes for Personalized Treatment
Researchers at VIB and KU Leuven have utilized machine learning to identify distinct subtypes of Parkinson's disease, potentially paving the way for personalized treatment approaches. The study, published in Nature Communications, used fruit fly models to observe the effects of genetic mutations associated with Parkinson's. The findings revealed two main types and five subtypes of the disease, each with unique molecular signatures. This discovery suggests that Parkinson's should be viewed as a collection of related conditions, each requiring tailored therapeutic strategies.
