Islanders Children's Foundation and Northwell Health Open Child Support Center in Memory of Jennifer Schaefer
The Islanders Children's Foundation, in collaboration with Northwell Health, has announced the opening of the 'Jennifer Schaefer Child Support Center' at the R.J. Zuckerberg Cancer Center in New Hyde Park. This initiative, supported by a $150,000 donation from the foundation, aims to provide a dedicated space for children whose parents are undergoing cancer treatment. The center will feature hockey-themed elements, including Islanders memorabilia, and offer entertainment options such as air hockey and gaming consoles. It will also provide a private space for grief counseling, staffed by a counselor. The center is named in memory of Jennifer Schaefer, and her son, Matthew Schaefer, will be involved in visiting the center to support families.
