New-Construction Homes Offer Up to 38% Lower Insurance Premiums
Newly built homes are proving to be a cost-effective choice for homeowners, particularly when it comes to insurance premiums. According to a report by Realtor.com, insurance costs for new-construction homes in 2025 were up to 38% lower compared to older homes. This is largely due to the modern safety standards and newer systems, such as roofs, plumbing, and electrical components, which reduce the likelihood of claims. For example, the average annual premium for a newly built home was $1,828, compared to $2,948 for homes of all ages. Over the first decade of ownership, homeowners of new-construction properties could save over $7,300 in insurance costs. Additionally, these homes are often better equipped to withstand severe weather, further contributing to their lower insurance rates.
