Instagram Mandates AI-Generated Profile Labels to Combat Deception
Instagram is implementing a new policy requiring accounts that feature AI-generated individuals to clearly label their profiles as such. Previously, some accounts had an AI creator label, but the updated policy introduces a more prominent 'AI-generated profile' designation. Accounts failing to comply with this labeling requirement may face limitations on their reach and visibility within the platform. Instagram states that this update builds on earlier testing of AI creator labels and addresses user feedback indicating a desire for transparency when encountering profiles featuring AI-generated people. The platform clarifies that this specific label is only necessary for profiles showcasing an AI-generated person, not for creators who use AI tools for editing photos, generating captions, or creating graphics.
