Federal Agencies Struggle with AI Oversight Amid Increased Adoption
Federal agencies are increasingly adopting agentic AI systems, with over half of surveyed technology executives indicating their agencies are exploring or implementing such technologies. However, a significant gap exists between the desire for human oversight and the implementation of necessary frameworks. A survey conducted by Market Connections for ServiceNow reveals that while 77% of federal leaders acknowledge the importance of oversight frameworks, less than a third have implemented them. The lack of mature governance frameworks and inadequate oversight policies are major barriers to the adoption of agentic AI. The findings highlight the need for agencies to define intervention triggers, ensure data readiness, and unify oversight to prevent losing control as AI systems scale.
