Lithium Battery in Headphone Charger Causes Emergency Landing at Bangor Airport
A Swiss Air flight from Zurich to New York's JFK International Airport made an emergency landing at Bangor International Airport due to smoke from an overheated lithium battery in a headphone charger. The incident occurred when the charger, a power bank, became lodged between seats, leading to overheating and smoke in the business class cabin. Swiss Air has strict regulations on power banks, allowing passengers to carry only two, which must not be stored in overhead compartments. The airline's rules aim to prevent incidents like this, as lithium batteries can overheat and potentially catch fire. The U.S. TSA mandates that lithium batteries be stored in carry-on luggage only, and the FAA prohibits portable power stations over 160 watt hours on passenger flights.
