Toddler's Brave Battle as He Awaits Heart and Lung Transplant at Texas Hospital
A two-year-old boy named Alexander Petrilli is demonstrating remarkable bravery as he awaits a heart and double-lung transplant at Texas Children’s Hospital. Born with a complex congenital heart disease and high lung pressure, Alexander has spent much of his life in hospitals. His condition requires him to be connected to life-sustaining medical equipment. Despite these challenges, Alexander remains cheerful, playing with toys and smiling. His journey has included significant medical interventions, such as open-heart surgery at just six days old. The Petrilli family relocated from Florida to Texas for specialized care, where Alexander is now stabilized with a heart pump while waiting for a suitable donor. Dr. Hari Tunuguntla, a heart failure and transplant cardiologist, is part of the team providing care, emphasizing the rarity of such expertise in the U.S. Alexander's positive attitude and resilience have been a source of strength for his family.
