Getty Center to Undergo Year-Long Modernization, Closing Until 2028
The Getty Center in Brentwood is set to close for a year-long modernization project starting March 15, 2027, with plans to reopen in spring 2028. This renovation marks the most significant update since the museum's opening in 1997. The project will include enhancements to gallery spaces, tram systems, and the Welcome Hall, along with improved cell phone and Wi-Fi services. During the closure, a programming space will open on Sepulveda Boulevard, and the Getty Villa will display selected paintings from the Getty Center. The modernization aims to prepare the museum for the Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games in Los Angeles.
