University of Michigan Physicists Develop Electron Lighthouse for Quantum Advancements
Physicists at the University of Michigan have developed an 'electron lighthouse' device that uses light to steer the flow of electrons through a semiconductor. This breakthrough involves using two laser beams of different colors to control electron trajectories without an electrical power source. The generated current is ballistic, meaning electrons travel along a trajectory determined by their initial velocity. This research, supported by the US National Science Foundation, could help elucidate the quantum geometry of materials and improve technologies such as quantum sensing, imaging, and telecommunications.
