European Union Implements Ban on Destroying Unsold Clothes to Reduce Waste
The European Union has enacted a new regulation prohibiting large companies from disposing of unsold clothes, accessories, and footwear. This measure, part of the EU's Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation, aims to reduce waste and environmental impact. Companies with more than 250 employees and over €50 million in annual turnover are affected. They must now find alternative ways to manage unsold stock, such as through discounts, alternative markets, or charity donations. The regulation, which took effect recently, requires companies to publish annual reports on discarded goods and maintain records for five years. The ban is part of a broader EU effort to promote a circular economy and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
