General Motors Recalls Trucks in U.S. Over Defective Side Curtain Airbag Inflators
General Motors has issued a recall in the United States for 1,559 potentially affected vehicles due to defective side curtain airbag inflators. The recall impacts certain 2016 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra heavy-duty trucks, as well as 2016-2017 Silverado and Sierra 1500 models. The defect could cause the driver or passenger-side curtain airbags to deploy unexpectedly, even without a crash. If an inflator ruptures, its components could be propelled into the vehicle's cabin, posing a risk of injury to occupants. This U.S. recall follows a similar action in Canada, where 126 Chevrolet and GMC trucks were recalled for the same issue. The Canadian recall, an expansion of earlier campaigns in May and March, also addressed potentially defective side curtain airbag inflators. Owners of affected vehicles in the U.S. can check if their trucks are part of the recall by entering their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) on the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s website.
