Governor Newsom Launches AI Cyber Defense Program to Protect California's Infrastructure
Governor Gavin Newsom has announced a new AI Cyber Defense Program aimed at bolstering California's cybersecurity infrastructure. This initiative is a response to increasing cyber threats, including a recent suspected Iran-linked cyber operation targeting municipal water systems in Minnesota. The program will be integrated into the California Cybersecurity Integration Center and will utilize AI for vulnerability detection, network hardening, and incident response. The initiative also includes appointing an AI Cybersecurity Officer in every state agency and expanding access to advanced cybersecurity capabilities for local governments and critical infrastructure partners. This move builds on previous executive orders by Governor Newsom to ensure the responsible use of AI in government operations.
