Severe Thunderstorms Expected in Chicago Area with High Winds and Hail
The Chicago area is under a weather hazard warning for severe thunderstorms expected later Wednesday, August 26, 2026. The National Weather Service has forecast storms capable of producing winds up to 60 mph, hail up to the size of a dollar coin, and a small chance of tornadoes. A cold front moving into the region is the primary driver of this weather system. The greatest risk for severe weather is in the afternoon and early evening, particularly in areas near and east of Paxton, Illinois, extending to Valparaiso, Indiana. Current conditions in Chicago are partly cloudy with temperatures around 82°F (28°C).
