Bali's C1 Tourist Visa Not an Official Remote Work Permit, Clarifies Bali Visa Advisor
Bali Visa Advisor has clarified that Indonesia's C1 Tourist Visa is not an official remote worker visa, despite its common use by digital nomads. The C1 Tourist Visa is officially designated for tourism and other permitted visitor activities, with an initial stay of up to 60 days, extendable to a maximum of 180 days. Indonesian Immigration explicitly prohibits C1 Tourist Visa holders from selling goods or services, or receiving salary, wages, or compensation for work or business from individuals or corporations within Indonesia. This distinction is crucial for remote workers, freelancers, and entrepreneurs who work online for companies and clients outside Indonesia, especially those who do not meet the USD 60,000 annual income requirement for Indonesia’s E33G Remote Worker Visa. While some international media have reported on digital nomads in Bali working remotely on tourist visas, Bali Visa Advisor emphasizes that this practice does not equate to official authorization from the Indonesian government.
