Rickwood Field in Birmingham, Alabama, the oldest ballpark in the United States, has a rich history dating back to its opening in 1910. The field has hosted numerous baseball legends, including Babe Ruth and Ty Cobb. In the 1990s, the ballpark faced potential demolition, but local efforts led by the Friends of Rickwood organization, with support from then-Mayor Richard Arrington Jr., helped preserve it. The field gained renewed attention when it was used as a filming location for movies like 'Cobb' and 'Soul of the Game.' These efforts have helped maintain Rickwood Field as a historical and cultural landmark.
