Steven Thompson Honored as Willie O'Ree Award Finalist for LGBTQIA+ Hockey Initiatives
Steven Thompson, co-founder of the Seattle Pride Hockey Association (SPHA), has been named a finalist for the Willie O'Ree Community Hero Award. Thompson's efforts began with the Seattle Pride Hockey Classic, which quickly grew into one of the largest LGBTQIA+ hockey tournaments globally. The success of the tournament led to the establishment of an SPHA league and the Frozen Pride Classic. Thompson's work has created a safe and celebratory space for LGBTQIA+ individuals in hockey, reflecting his personal journey and commitment to inclusivity in the sport.
