Colombia's Ecopetrol Reports Decline in Production and Profit Amid Economic Challenges
Colombia's state-owned petroleum company, Ecopetrol, has reported a decrease in both production and net profit for the first quarter of the year. The company's net profit fell by 7.7% year-on-year, amounting to 2.9 trillion Colombian pesos (approximately US$764 million). This decline is attributed to a 2.7% drop in hydrocarbons production, which stood at 725,200 barrels of oil equivalent per day. The decrease in production was primarily due to natural declines in certain fields and reduced activity in the Permian Basin in the U.S. Despite these challenges, Ecopetrol's downstream segment saw improvements, with the Barrancabermeja refinery achieving a 12.5% increase in crude processing. The company also continues to invest in renewable energy, with 382 megawatts of operational capacity and additional projects under development.
