Governor Hochul Grants Clemency to Six Individuals, Continues Clemency Process Reforms
Governor Kathy Hochul has granted clemency in the form of a pardon to six individuals in New York. This action acknowledges individuals who have demonstrated remorse, rehabilitation, and a commitment to improving themselves and their communities. These pardons are intended to alleviate the negative impacts of past criminal convictions on individuals who have lived crime-free lives for significant periods and made positive contributions to their communities, despite having served their sentences years ago. This brings the total number of clemency grants during Governor Hochul's tenure to 145, comprising 125 pardons and 20 commutations. The Governor's office has also implemented procedural reforms to enhance the clemency process, including regular communication with applicants regarding their case status and an updated online web hub to assist with applications. A Clemency Advisory Panel, composed of impartial experts, was also convened to provide recommendations on clemency applications.
