University of Maryland-Led Institute Secures $37.5 Million NSF Renewal for Quantum Simulation Research
The National Science Foundation (NSF) has renewed funding for the University of Maryland-led Quantum Leap Challenge Institute for Robust Quantum Simulation (NSF RQS) with an expected award of $37.5 million over five years. This renewal, effective September 1, will expand the institute's scientific agenda, sustain education and workforce development programs, and strengthen partnerships across academia, federal laboratories, and industry. Established in 2021 with an initial $25 million federal award, NSF RQS has focused on developing methods to verify quantum systems, reduce errors, and demonstrate advanced quantum simulations. The institute has also been instrumental in building a collaborative community of scientists, engineers, educators, and students.
