Israel Launches Program to Recruit North American Jewish Teachers Amid Shortage
Israel has initiated a national program aimed at recruiting Jewish educators from North America to address a significant shortage of qualified teachers in the country. The National Educators Aliyah Program, a collaboration between Nefesh B'Nefesh, the Education Ministry, and the Aliyah and Integration Ministry, seeks to streamline the process for North American educators to obtain professional recognition, complete licensing requirements, and secure employment in Israel. The program is set to begin in the 2026-2027 academic year, with the first group of teachers expected to start in the 2027-2028 school year. The initiative focuses on filling gaps in subjects like English, mathematics, and science, particularly in central regions of Israel where shortages are most acute. The program will allow candidates to start the recognition process in North America, reducing the time between their arrival in Israel and their entry into the workforce.
