UK Energy Sector Faces Overheating Challenges Amid Rising Temperatures

The Climate Change Committee has issued a warning that by 2050, heatwaves could consistently exceed 40°C across the entire UK, necessitating widespread adaptation measures. The National Health Service (NHS) is also grappling with heat-related issues, reporting cancelled medical procedures, equipment malfunctions, and staff illnesses, indicating a growing health emergency. Projections suggest that under a high-emissions scenario, the UK could face 40°C days every 3-4 years by the end of the century. The risk of overheating is particularly pronounced in affordable housing, highlighting the need for sustainable strategies and retrofit programs to mitigate these impacts.
