Meta AI Launches Dedicated Desktop Application for Mac Users
Meta has released a dedicated desktop application for Meta AI on Mac, marking a significant step in the company's commitment to its artificial intelligence technology. The new app, launched as version 1.0 beta, is a lightweight 16MB installation designed to run natively on Apple silicon Macs with macOS 15 or later. It utilizes an AppKit and SwiftUI shell with WebKit for rich chat content, distinguishing it from Electron apps or repackaged iPad releases. The application includes Mac-specific functionalities such as 'Quick Invoke' (Option-Space) for a compact composer, a dictation feature for typing spoken words into any app, and the ability to attach Mac windows to conversations for context gathering. This release follows a series of AI advancements from Meta, including the replacement of Llama with Muse Spark, enhanced voice conversations, live camera-based assistance, and Muse-powered image generation.
